Canadian company D-Box Technologies Inc., which makes motion codes for the entertainment and gaming industry, has announced the opening of a new office in Burbank, CA.
Located within the Deluxe Digital Studios, a service provider to movie studios, the new office will position D-Box more closely to the major Hollywood studios that the company works with, as well as provide D-Box with the required security infrastructure for supplying embedded content in real-time for future theatrical releases. D-Box has installed six D-Box Motion Code-equipped seats in the Deluxe Digital Studios, all of which are available for demonstration to studio executives and other key industry personnel.
D-Box technology has typically been incorporated with DVD movie releases, allowing customers to enjoy the technology in the home with compatible furniture, like theatre seating. But the company has recently been working with studios to embed its Motion Code technology for theatrical releases, the first of which will be Universal Pictures' Fast & Furious, scheduled for release in theatres on April 3, 2009. Additionally, D-Box is working toward equipping seats in various movie theatres with the technology, and has already inked a deal with San Diego, CA-based UltraStar Cinemas. The company's theatre located in Arizona will be the first to install a section of D-Box motion systems.
In order to promote the upgraded seating, D-Box will supply UltraStar with a demonstration kiosk so that visitors can test drive the system; and a clip to be shown on all 14 digital screens. Following the pilot program, D-Box will receive recurring revenue based on incremental ticket prices.
"We will closely monitor our success with D-Box, and will not hesitate equipping additional rooms should the technology live up to our expectations," confirms Damon Rubio, Vice President of Operations for UltraStar Cinemas.
