Germany, October 23, 2006: A 53-year old German man took his in-vehicle navigation system a shade too literally, and ended up in a toilet hut, says a Reuters report.

The man was obediently taking orders from the device, and when it instructed him to "turn right now!" he did just that. He held on for dear life as the vehicle scampered straight off the road and into a building site. Then it stumbled up a stairway before coming to a halt by smacking right into a toilet shack. For reasons of personal hygiene and safety (not to mention privacy issues) one can only hope that the ‘loo' had been vacant at the moment of impact.

One can also hope for a little bit of common sense when using these things. Anyone who has played around with portable GPS units will know that they can suggest a wrong turn or two on occasion. (I recall being instructed to "turn left" while on a three-lane highway!) In this gentleman's case, it wasn't the directions so much as it was a case of taking the advisement rather too literally. He literally found himself deep in a pile of…well, you get the picture.

GPS Unit: $500. Vehicle: $25,000. Smashing into a toilet because the little voice in your car told you to: Priceless.
