XM Canada has tweaked its mobile application to create a version that will work with Android smartphones.
Similar to the already-launched iPhone (iPod Touch, iPad) and BlackBerry XM Canada apps, the Android app will allow subscribers to access the satellite radio channels through the device. The free app affords access to 100 XM channels, including commercial-free music, sports, comedy, news, and entertainment, all at 128 Kbps quality.
"This new Android application broadens the ability to take XM with you anywhere you go," says Janet Gillespie, Marketing Vice President, XM Canada.
In addition to listening to tunes, customers can flag them for later purchase through iTunes; share information about songs through Facebook, browse what's playing on other channels, and bookmark favourite channels. Tunes can be played back over both WiFi, as well as the 3G cellular network.
While the app is free, a subscription will cost $7.99 per month for new subscribers, or an additional $2.99 per month when bundled with an existing XM Canada subscription. A 14-day trial is offered, allowing customers to preview the XM online service.
The app can be downloaded at www.xmradio.ca/android.
