The iPhone's Still Got It

The iPhone craze is showing no signs of slowing down, as already one million of the new devices, deemed the iPhone 3G S, were sold in just three days. Additionally, six million people have downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software upgrade for their iPhone 3G's since it became available on June 17.

"Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning," enthuses Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, who is rumoured to be returning to work this summer after a short hiatus due to illness. "With over 50,000 applications available from Apple's revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever."

Read our blog for a feature comparison of the iPhone 3G with the 3.0 software upgrade and the new device. The iPhone 3G S sells in Canada for $199 (16 GB) and $299 (32 GB); while the previous-generation iPhone 3G has been reduced to just $99. Both devices are available at higher prices without contracts.

While we might deem many of these one-million customers new iPhone adopters, chances are that many are customers who spent an arm and a leg to obtain a jailbroken, real first generation iPhone (the EDGE version that was never actually available in Canada). Many will find it worthwhile to upgrade now, even if just to the 3G version; especially with Rogers' 6 GB for $30/month plan, which will be available until July 31...for owners of a legitimately-purchased iPhone 3G, of course. Rogers is also offering upgrade credits for those who currently own an iPhone 3G and want to snag the 3G S. For those who crossed the border and unlocked a first-gen iPhone, sorry, you're out of luck.

Line-ups form outside the downtown Toronto Rogers Wireless last summer when the iPhone 3G became available in Canada. Apple has already sold one-million of its 3G S iPhones in just three days.
