LG wraped up of its Life's Goof FilmFest at a gala event last night, where the lucky winner was awarded $100,000 for creating the most inspiring short HD film. Nuit Blanche, which literally translates to "white night", was the winning submission.
Created by Arev Manoukian of Ottawa, ON, Nuit Blanche is a touching short film with two main characters, a man and a woman, who "meet" in the night. While the tone is more somber than upbeat, the film manages to leave you with a feeling of hope and contentment. The film was submitted in the narrative category.
Finalist submissions were judged at the finale event by a panel including: Jaime King, actress (Sin City, The Spirit, My Bloody Valentine 3D); K-OS, Platinum selling and Juno Award winning Canadian singer/songwriter; Laurie May, Co-President and Co-Founder of Maple Pictures; Steve Nash, National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player; and Tim Barnes, Marketing Team Leader at LG Electronics Canada and Founder of the LG Life's Good FilmFest. The event was hosted by TV personality George Stroumboulopoulos.
In addition to Nuit Blanche, a runner-up was selected in each of the remaining three film submission categories: I Love Rock and Roll was selected in Animation; Life's Good for Sports; and Til My Voice is Gone for Fashion & Music. These three film creators each received $10,000.
"The LG Life's Good FilmFest has been an amazing experience for all involved, helping to cement LG's position as the world leader in premium HD viewing experiences," says Barnes. "Our $100,000 winning HD short film Nuit Blanche delivers an engaging, memorable story, which when enjoyed on our latest line of LCD LED TVs, offers our customers what we consider to the best HD film experience available."
Indeed, you will be able to view the winning film on a series of LG LED LCD TVs; Nuit Blanche will be shown on LG TVs in various retail locations across Canada, including Best Buy, Sears, Tanguay, and Brault & Martineau. All winning films can also be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/lgfilmfest, although they can't be enjoyed there in their full HD glory.
The LG Life's Good FilmFest commenced in August 2009, and was open to filmmakers worldwide, not just in Canada. The requirement for each submission was that it was no longer than five minutes, was filmed in high-definition, and expressed a positive and uplifting message. While at first glance Nuit Blanche may appear more sad than uplifting, a deeper look into the potential meaning and overall feel of the film reveals an underlying message of positivity. What's your take?
