Targus says its new line of portable chargers for laptops and gadgets represents the lightest and smallest models on the market today, at about half the size and weight of most others.
The tiny chargers can charge both a computer and a portable gadget at the same time, and work with the Tips for Targus program that affords additional charging tips to accommodate different devices. According to Targus, each charger uses 60% less materials in both the build and packaging than other models.
"We have invested in understanding the problems laptop and mobile device users have keeping their devices charged, from the stay-at-home mom and hustling student, to the mobile professional and road warrior, and their needs and wants are very similar," says Carolyn Perrier, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at Targus. "Considering one device replaces six, they are not only the lightest, most compact devices of their kind on the market; they are also the most efficient."
Four models are currently available: the Premium Laptop Charger AC/DC (APM69CA); Compact Laptop Charger AC (APA69CA); Netbook Charger AC (APA70CA); and Mobile Laptop Charger DC (APD80CA).
The Premium model comes with nine tips, plus a mini USB tip, and one for Apple products, including the iPad, iPhone, and iPod models. A separate DC charger plugs into a car's cigarette lighter adapter, and can power up two devices at once. The AC charger rotates, making it easy to slot into a power strip without blocking other outlets. The package is available for an MSRP of $169.99.
Selling for $99.99, the Compact model can charge both a laptop as well as one low-power device, and has the same rotating plug design as the Premium version. Compatible with most HP, Dell, Sony, Lenovo, IBM, Panasonic, Compaq, Acer, Asus, Gateway and Fujitsu laptops, it includes a mini-USB tip and an Apple 30-pin connector can be ordered separately for the cost of shipping and handling.
The Netbook Charger ($89.99) works with most netbooks by leading manufacturers, and measures a small 2.73 x 0.78 x 4.5" and weighs just 11.5 ounces. Like the Notebook model, it can charge a small computer, plus one another low-power device, like a BlackBerry; and has a rotating plug.
Ideal for use while traveling, the Mobile Laptop Charger ($89.99) comes with eight laptop tips and one mini USB, and measures just 3.5" long and weighs 6.9 ounces. It, too, boasts a rotating design for easily fitting vertically into a port without blocking other inputs.
All of the new chargers are backed by a two-year limited warranty.
