William Shatner will boldly go where he has never gone before: the hosting podium of a JUNO Award broadcast.
The screen icon that made a name for himself as Star Trek's Captain James T. Kirk, will be hosting the 2012 JUNO Award ceremony on Sunday, April 1, from Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, ON.
"I'm so pleased to be a part of the JUNO Awards," says Shatner, who in addition to acting has also released three studio albums. "To be part of Canada's entertainment industry is a point of pride."
The annual event that celebrates the best that Canadian music has to offer also revealed its list of nominees today. City and Colour, Dan Mangan, Drake, Feist, Hedley, and Nickelback lead the way with four nominations apiece, while artists like Arcade Fire, Michael Buble, and Justin Bieber also received nods.
The Sheepdogs, the Saskatchewan-based rock quartet that became the first independent band to grace the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine, have been nominated in the New Group of the Year, Rock Album of the Year (for Learn & Burn), and Single of the Year (for I Don't Know) categories.
At this year's show, Blue Rodeo will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The group will also perform at the show, along with City and Colour, deadmau5, Feist, Hedley, and Nickelback.
Tickets for the 2012 JUNO Awards go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. EST.
