Samsung has shipped one-million Galaxy S smartphones in the U.S. in the first 45 days of availability.
The Galaxy S, available in Canada through Bell and called Vibrant (the device will be available through other carriers soon under different names) includes enticing features like a sizeable 4" Super AMOLED screen, Social Hub social networking integration and amalgamation, DLNA connectivity, Android 2.1, and Swype Typing. But what really sets it apart is the easy-to-use and intuitive interface. In fact, after seeing the device at CTIA WIRELESS in Las Vegas earlier this year, and spending just a few minutes with it, I could immediately see that this smartphone would truly rival the highly popular Apple iPhone based on its intuitive design and quick processor.
The Galaxy S, in many ways, can be viewed as the Android answer to the iPhone: customers who aren't fans of Apple, nor the company's "closed" system, have fully embraced the Android format, in large part due to the fact that the Google-based OS functions as an on open system. This makes it compatible with a variety of applications and products; while also making it easy for developers to create applications for it.
In the U.S., the Galaxy S is available through T-Mobile (known as the Vibrant there) and through AT&T (known as the Captivate.)
Samsung's Galaxy S is poised for even further growth stateside, as it will become available through Sprint tomorrow; and through Verizon Wireless, U.S. Cellular, and Cellular South later this fall.
