One spot where technology will, and should, take an increasingly important role is in the classroom. And a new online video distribution service aims to help accomplish this task by providing thousands of educational videos that can be accessed through one portal.
Distribution Access, based in Toronto, ON, has partnered with Defined Learning LLC to offer on-demand access to more than 3,500 full-length videos and 40,000 video clips that fit within various levels of educational programs from kindergarten through to grade 12. The service is based on an annual subscription on a per-school basis, based on the number of students. But a 30-day trial is available for educational institutions to try out the technology before committing to it.
Once a member, teachers and students can search, stream, and download content. All content available has been correlated to Provincial curriculum, and includes videos like Daily Planet in the Classroom and Basic Math. According to the company, a specific emphasis has been placed on the "STEM" resources: science, technology, engineering, and math. Other content includes career-based videos, recommendations, lesson plans, and student activities.
"It is a 'made in Canada' service that includes award winning educational content from leading producers from around the world combined with some of the best Canadian productions available for education today," says Doug Connolly, President of Distribution Access. "Series such as Canadian Geographic Kids, SciQ, and Daily Planet in the Classroom are just a few of the Canadian productions we are proud to feature."
In addition to schools, Distribution Access also offers a family subscription that parents can use to help kids with homework.
Stay tuned to the February 2010 issue of Marketnews Magazine for an in-depth article on technology in the classroom, and how custom integrators can involve themselves in this lucrative, growing market.
