Nintendo is knocking $30 off the price of its popular DSi and DSi XL portable gaming systems in time for the back-to-school and holiday season: come September 12, the former device will sell for $150, and the latter for $170.
Currently, Nintendo's DSi sells at retail for $179.99 and the DSi XL for $199.99. Note that these newly-determined figures are "suggested retail prices," which means the actual selling price can vary by retailer. However, figure that the units will be more affordable in a few weeks than they are now.
"We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend," declares Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada's Vice President and General Manager. "Our new Nintendo DSi prices make it easier than ever for consumers to access the tremendous variety of games, applications and social tools on the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems."
While they price drop may not be significant, it does give parents (and teens/tweens) the incentive (and extra funds) to snag a game along with the device.
According to Nintendo and cited NPD Group figures, more than 42.3 million DS systems have been sold in North America.
