Well-known New York City high-end audio retailer Sound by Singer has surprised many with the announcement that it will be closing its doors.
A notice on the Website (www.soundbysinger.com) advertises a clearance sale that will run through to August 21, affording anywhere from 30% to 70% off merchandise in the store. This includes both new and demo audio and video equipment; and includes products like speakers, phono cartridges, turntables, cables, and power conditioners. All warranties will be fulfilled by the manufacturers directly through their respective sales agents.
"Despite our best efforts," reads the Website, "Sound by Singer has lost its lease and will be shutting down its showroom. While we ponder our next move, everything must be sold."
Zagat, which rated the shop number-one for quality in 2009, said: "When price is no object, head to this ‘superb audio emporium' near Union Square where sound dreams are realized."
For now, it appears NYC residents will have to put those sound dreams on hold, or look elsewhere to fulfill them.
