In November, KEF Canada will introduce its first soundbars. Designed to fit underneath a flat panel TV, both speakers incorporate drivers for the front left, right and centre surround channels. You connect the speaker to the corresponding outputs on a surround-sound audio-video receiver. Separate surround speakers and a subwoofer are required to complete the surround system.
There will be two models. Retailing for $900, the 3.1"-deep HTF8003 is designed to complement flat panels 42" and larger. For each of the three front channels, it utilizes a Uni-Q driver in which a 15mm tweeter is placed at the apex of a 75mm mid-bass driver; this is supplemented by a 75mm passive radiator. The HTF7003 ($600) is 2.4" deep, and is intended for use with panels 32" and larger. It employs a 19mm aluminum tweeter and dual 50mm drivers for each of its three channels. Both models have gloss-black aluminum enclosures, and come with wall mount and table stand.
A new wireless subwoofer is due to arrive in October, the HTB2SE-W combines KEF's stylish HTB2 subwoofer with its Universal Wireless Kit. The gloss-black ovoid enclosure contains a 10-inch driver and 10-inch passive radiator; power comes from an internal 250-watt Class D amplifier. The sub can be placed horizontally or vertically. It will retail for $1,500.
All three products were announced during the recent CEDIA Expo tradeshow in Atlanta.
