Toronto-based video and imaging specialty retailer Henry's opened its new store in Oshawa, ON, on Groundhog Day, not only doubling its size, but introducing a new look. "We've increased the floor space," says Robert Gunn, the store's manager, "and highlighted emerging categories with special displays."
Assistant Manager David Librach notes that the new digs have not one but two rooms dedicated to classes of Henry's School of Imaging. One of these is given over totally to lighting demonstrations and instruction. The old store made do, he says, with a multi-purpose room that was often used for storage.
The store, formerly a Blockbuster Video outlet, has a very high ceiling, adds Librach. This allowed the store to erect what he calls "a unique lighting truss, sort of a scaffolding like you might see at a concert." In racks atop this are various lighting systems, which are part of the new thrust. "We have new lighting categories and more SKUs." Also prominent is a new display area for printers, inks, and paper.
Mahogany trim complements pine walls, which can be used to display stock or photographic art. Henry's corporate colours of orange and blue stand out in contrast to the natural wood hues. This store will not only be a flagship, but a pilot for the new look, and new products and services.
Led by Gunn, who has managed Henry's Oshawa location for three years, the dozen staff members closed the old shop in the Oshawa Plaza on January 31, and reopened just days later at 245 King St W., in the Teddy's Park Plaza. A grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, March 3.
