Gateway Debuts PC with Blu-ray, 1.5TB Hard Drive

Gateway has released a new line of PCs, including a redesigned FX series model for gamers with a built-in Blu-ray disc drive and 1.5 TB hard drive.

The FX Series Gateway PCs are designed for gamers from the outside as well as the inside, with a "race car-like" aesthetic design that includes red accents and lighting. In addition to a built-in Blu-ray drive and 1.5 TB drive, the FX computers come with headphone and mic jacks, an angled card reader, and a recessed tray on the top for placing a camera, smartphone, or other device whilst downloading files. At the back of said tray are two more USB ports, plus a recessed area for storing and hiding excess cables.

Each FX series PC has expansion bays, a door on the front that conceals two external hard drive bays, and eject buttons integrated into both the front and sides of the PC for removing optical disk drives.

Additional features include ATI Radeon HD5850 graphics, an Intel Core i7-860 processor with Turbo Boost technology, and 16 GB of DDR3 memory. Pricing with Windows 7 Home Premium and all aforementioned features is MSRP $1,999.99.

Gateway is also expanding its ZX series all-in-one desktops by adding multi-touch displays, 1 TB hard drives, and Blu-ray. With 8 GB of memory, ATI HD4670 graphics, Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200s processor, super-multi DVD drive, and a 23" widescreen Ultrabright LCD (1080p), the ZX Series PC is available for an MSRP of $1,099.99. that model also comes loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Gateway is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Acer.

BD burners can be bought for as low as $150 now and media as low as $5 a piece (and $4 a piece in a bulk of $25). I think it's pretty reasonable considering how relatively new the BD technology is.

hey FatCow, If you reed the news... they don't say that they are the first pc with a blu ray drive in the world but they debut a new a line of desktop with blu ray burner in... Anyway it's always good when there are new technology in PC. I just hope the media will drop. That is when we will see more BD burner.

Unfortunately, the news above is not true. I've purchased a PC with BD Burner (not only reader) from Dell in the beginning of February 2010.
