The final winner in the Marketnews Hands-Free for Free Bluetooth Giveaway has been announced: Fred Vinzenz of Whitby, ON will receive an HS-500 Bluetooth headset. His name was randomly selected from all those who registered to the Marketnews.ca Website and/or made a comment on the site last week.

The Hands-Free for Free Giveaway ran from October 26, 2009 through to February 1, 2010, and awarded one winner each week with a BlackBerry-branded Bluetooth headset or speakerphone. The giveaway was inspired by hands-free legislation that prohibits the use of handheld electronics devices while driving. With provinces like Quebec and British Columbia enforcing such legislation since 2008, and Ontario, B.C., Saskatchewan, and P.E.I. all jumping on board this year, Marketnews wanted to ensure that our readers were able to drive safely, and equipped with the latest technology. The giveaway was held in partnership with Hitfar Concepts and Research in Motion (RIM).

Vinzenz, a former consumer electronics industry member, has been retired since 2001. He agrees 100% with hands-free legislation. In fact, Vinzenz has taken steps to advise both federal and provincial politicians of his views!

"I see nearly every day examples of vehicles swerving lanes, not stopping for pedestrians, blocking traffic by driving at slow speed, etc. while the drivers are talking on their phone or checking their cell phone for messages," he says. "The drivers are many times also drivers of trucks, taxis, city and school buses, and even police men. I am glad that tickets are finally being issued, and hope this will help."
