Custom Corner: Mounts For Custom Jobs - Part 2

Last week, we covered some specific mounting options for flat panel TV and projector installations. This week, we'll look at a few more of the latest and greatest in this category.

There are two key trends in flat panel TVs that we can expect to continue for some time to come: demand for sleek, low profile, on-wall installations (and consequently for the low profile mounts needed to accommodate them); and flat panels getting larger, with the demand for these bigger sizes growing right along with them. It's hard to believe that it ‘s been four years since I declared that "50 is the new 42" in reference to television screen sizes. Today, 60 is the new 50, and, let's be honest, a 42-inch screen belongs in a bathroom or small bedroom installation, not in a main living area.

The LVL low-profile, very-large on wall mount from Rocelco affords installers an option that will accommodate flat panels as big as 60-inches and up to 200lbs in weight. What's more, it sits only 0.51" from the wall. Additional features include universal compatibility with both ESA and non-VESA mounting points, and the ability to mount to wall studs or solid brick and concrete walls.

Does your client have a bigger TV in mind? The Sanus VMPL3 will accommodate a flat panel up to 84-inches and 280lbs, and offers both a flush mount and a vertical tilt option for installation. The total depth from the wall is 1.25". Other features include Sanus ProSet, which means that in situaitons where the studs don't exactly line up in the centre of the wall, installers can mirco-adjust the position of the TV up to six inches left or right after installation.

Sometimes, the solution to an installation problem arrives through a method that you'd never expect. According to ChiefMounts National Sales Manager David Galos, the Chief line of Fusion pull-out mounts were originally intended for digital signage video wall applications, but have caught on for residential installations. The reason is that, with the LSMVU and MSMVU in addition to lateral shift, open design, and post-installation height adjust, they also offer easy access to cables and connections. "This has been very useful when building displays into recessed areas," Galos explains. "Now we offer perfectly linear movement, with precise display alignment for even spacing around millwork."

The mounts extend outward 7" for easy cable access and servicing in hard-to-reach installations, even on the centremost screen of a video wall matrix. The LSMVU will accept TVs up to 63-inches and 150lbs; and the MSMVU up to 47-inches and 125lbs.

For retrofit installations of small projectors, OmniMount's HDPJTMA remains popular because it is a completely universal design that fits any projector up to 50 lbs. The gear driven 3-axis micro adjustment allows for precise post-installation adjustment, and knowing that ease of installation is always key, the HDPJTMA projector mount includes a PFCA pipe coupler to easily attach the mount to a ceiling drop. For security on commercial jobs, it also features hex pin anti-theft security screws and installers can add a lock if desired.
