Storage Appliance Corp., parent company to the popular Clickfree brand of easy-to-use back-up drives, has confirmed that it will receive $15 million in new funding.
Tandem Expansion, a venture capitalist/private equity investor team in Canada, has committed to the new funding amount. C-founders Charles Sirois and Brent Belzberg typically look at "late-stage technology companies and research firms," having together invested $300 million in capital to such companies. Storage Appliance is also a Canadian company, based out of Richmond Hill, ON, about 20 minutes outside of downtown Toronto.
Currently, Clickfree has 23 patents pending with relation to the Clickfree technology, which includes software built-into the portable hard drives that automatically runs once the drive is connected to a computer. While more advanced customization of backup is available, the concept is made for the non-tech savvy person that can truly just plug the drive in, and allow it to instantly back up all of a computer's files.
The company has a successful reputation behind it: Bryan McLeod, CEO, was the former CEO and developer of Intrigue Technologies, creator of the Harmony universal remote control. That device, which was then sold to Logitech, was another technology product aimed at the consumer who wants something that's extremely easy to use.
According to Storage Appliance, the $15 million in funding will allow the company to "drive a rapid worldwide retail rollout." In addition to the standar ddrives that come in a variety of capacities, Clickfree has also come out with additional products, like a device that can convert any standard hard drive into a Clickfree drive; and a device that can back up content to CDs and DVDs.
