Anthem revealed its first Blu-ray Disc player at the 2010 International CES, supporting BD Live (Profile 2.0), BonusView, and HDMI 1.3.
The BLX 200 supports playback of 1,920 x 1,080 content, and utilizes the HDMI 1.3 specification with support for Deep Color and x.v. Color. It is compatible with movies filmed at 24 frames-per-second and supports AVCHD, as well as other common file formats like BD-ROM, DVD-R/RW, MP3, and JPEG. Audio output capability is Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD; and video at 12-bit.
BD Live content can be accessed via Ethernet connection to the Internet. The player features 1 GB of built-in memory, but also comes with a 2 GB USB flash drive for additional storage. Other connections include component and composite video, digital optical and coaxial audio, and 7.1 PCM audio output via HDMI.
Finished with a brushed aluminum faceplate and Anthem-blue lights, the player is of course backwards compatible with standard DVDs and CDs. Functions like play and pause can be controlled via capacitive touch controls; an external IR remote is also included.
The Anthem BLX 200 Blu-ray Disc Player is available in black for an MSRP of $799.

It's funny. I was reading this article in the magazine and my first thought was "what makes this BD player worth $800?" It's not especially pleasing to the eye, has very few features you cannot get for less money, and for $800 I would expect they could have integrated the extra 2G of memory instead of throwing in a flash drive (which is also what cheap Blu-ray players do). I have to say that for $300 a PS3 beats the heck out of this unit. It looks better, has more storage, plays anything, has a Bluetooth remote control (not the game controllers, but a real remote control), has built in WiFi AND hard wired LAN connection, plus as an added bonus it plays PS3 games. You can store media on it including movies, music and pictures. You can upgrade the storage size by either installing a bigger hard drive or adding an external USB2 hard drive. There are also other entertainment options built into the PS3. In would not recommend everyone looking for a Blu-ray player purchase a PS3, but I would recommend it to anyone looking at spending over $300 on just the Blu-ray player as the more expensive units don't have anything the PS3 doesn't have.

Excellent to see another high end choice in Blu Ray players on the market. Anthem is a name synonymous with precision & high quality. I'll be adding this to my list of components for my home theatre project (along with one of Anthem's LCoS Projectors).
