Adam's App of the Week: MoodieFoodie Makes Me Moody

My house is littered with cookbooks. My lady loves to cook and I love to taste the meals that these books bring to her attention. So, when I discovered Sobey's MoodieFoodie app for iOS, I was hoping that I found something more compact than cookbooks to present to her. However, what I wound up finding was a glitchy app that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Before I get into the negatives, let me break down the gist of this app, as well as its few positives.

MoodieFoodie is designed to offer meal ideas for people feeling certain moods. For instance, if someone is feeling HotHotHot (whatever that's supposed to mean), ideas like Thai shrimp soup with rice and chicken fajitas with avocado salad will be offered. The user is then able to select his meal of choice and view its recipe and cooking instructions.

Also, users can share meals with friends through Facebook and Twitter link ups, as well as submit mood-based recipes.

Pretty cool, right?

Well, I sure thought so until I had more trouble getting through this app than my fridge after a mega grocery shopping experience.

While the pictures of the foods look enticing and the recipes and cooking instructions come off as rather helpful, the lackluster navigational experience I encountered within MoodieFoodie put me in a mood that is too foul to list upon said app.

Initially all of the menu options led me to believe that floating through this app would be a breeze. However, buttons would either take me to the wrong spot or stop working completely. For instance, I had moments where I attempted to get back to the moods menu and couldn't get there - this is kind of a big time failure if the whole point of the app is to match moods with foods.

Sometimes, when I selected a given mood, it would not take me to it and instead send me to the beginning of the alphabetized mood menu, as opposed to the specific mood I selected.

Anyways, I usually pen long reviews when an app has a lot of great features to offer, but since this one doesn't it may just be time to walk away before I get myself into any trouble. Perhaps I should abandon my keyboard and grab something to eat.

If this app worked properly, I'd probably know what meal would go best with a combination of dumbfoundedness and frustration.
