Onkyo's TX-SR607, introduced this May, was the first audio-video receiver (AVR) with Dolby Pro Logic IIz, the processing circuit that aims to add a sense of vertical space to the soundfield, to be reproduced via a pair of speakers mounted above the stereo pair in a 5.1 (or 7.1 surround system).
Onkyo is introducing three more receivers with the circuit. The TX-NR1007, TX-NR3007, and top-of-the-line TX-NR5007 that will be shipping to Canadian dealers this October, are network- and Internet-radio-capable, 9.2-channel THX Ultra2 Plus certified AVRs.
All three have a rear-panel Ethernet port to join an existing network, which gives them the ability to stream Pandora, Rhapsody, vTuner, and Sirius Internet Radio services. Each receiver is Windows 7 compatible, and carries DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5 certification, ensuring compatibility with other DLNA equipment in a home.
The TX-NR5007 and TX-NR3007 have eight and seven HDMI 1.3a inputs, respectively, including a front-panel input for easy access.
An HQV Reon-VX chipset upscales all video sources 1080p/24. The less-expensive TX-NR1007 has six rear-panel HDMI inputs; and makes do with Faroudja DCDi Cinema processing for upscaling.
All models include dual parallel HDMI outputs to display signals on dual monitors simultaneously or independently. They also have ISF Certified Calibration Controls (ISFccc) for independent optimization and fine-grain adjustments of a full range of video sources, including day, night, and custom modes for each input.
Audio processing is via a trio of TI Aureus DSP chips, while Burr Brown DACs (32-bit in the case of the TX-NR5007) work with Onkyo's VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) for digital-to-analog conversion.
