For consumers to successfully view active 3D content in the home, they will require devices that support the new HDMI 1.4 specification. And HDMI Licensing, LLC has now made the 3D portion of this new version available online.
Accessible at http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/specification.aspx, the document will provide manufacturers and other relevant firms with the tools required to create supporting devices. The public document is meant for those who have not executed an HDMI Adopter Agreement.
A 1.4a version of the HDMI specification is scheduled to launch shortly, and this will include further updates to the 3D portion. Once this version has been published to Adopters, HDMI Licensing will subsequently excerpt the portion and make it available for public download as well.
"The HDMI Consortium recognizes the importance of standardized 3D formats for movies, gaming and broadcast content and the need for non-adopter companies and organizations to have access to that portion of the HDMI Specification," says Steve Venuti, president of HDMI Licensing, LLC. "As the mainstream adoption of 3D is gaining momentum and content providers define and expand their 3D roadmaps, HDMI is ready to support this major market development."
