WIN An HP 'Netbook': We Want Your Input...

..on the Good, the Bad, & the Ugly in Consumer Electronics!

Have you ever felt so passionate about an issue in the consumer electronics industry that you found yourself venting to colleagues? Clients? Family and friends? Chances are most of you have, and Marketnews Magazine would like to award you for sharing your thoughts on the good, the bad, and the ugly in CE.

What We Want

We're looking for the best, most insightful, thought-provoking, and original Letters to the Editor to share with our readers in future issues of Marketnews and at www.marketnews.ca. To thank you for your participation, we, in partnership with Future Shop, will be awarding an HP 110-1135CA "netbook" to the person with the best submission.

What Should You Write About?

Whatever you want!

Focus on a hot industry topic from 2009 that gets your blood boiling, gives you a great sense of pride in working in consumer electronics, fosters a debate, generates a few laughs...whatever inspires you. Get creative, be bold, and make your entry stand out from the rest.

Here are a few topic ideas to get you started: How do you feel about the CRTC stopping Globalive/WIND Mobile from entering the Canadian wireless industry? Should Martin Logan have put its products into Future Shop stores? Are retailers putting too much emphasis on megapixels in cameras? Have consumers forgotten about audio in the home theatre equation? What has competition and over-saturation done to the flat-panel TV market? LCD or LED TV? Has the industry become "all about the deal?" Was there an editorial in Marketnews that you wish to counter or support?

You get the drift. Now get out there and rant!

Requirements

We ask that your letter be no more than 250 words. Note that submissions may be edited for space, grammar, and style. While we will accept and publish anonymous letters, they will not qualify for prizing.

The Prize

Our lucky winner will receive an HP 110-1135CA "netbook," which is one of the first to operate on the new Windows 7 platform (Starter Edition.) The computer boasts a 10.1" LED-backlit screen and a 160 GB hard drive. Powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor, it has 1 GB of system memory, and WiFi. Approx. retail value: $450.

The Giveaway Period

The giveaway runs from Tuesday, November 17 through to Monday, December 7, 2009. A winner will be selected on or by Wednesday, December 9.

Send your submissions to: letterstotheeditor@marketnews.ca with "NetbookGiveaway" in the Subject Line. Please include your full name, mailing address, and contact phone number along with your entry.

I know I'm really late (new member) but I sent you an email anyway on this disposable society we live in. Maybe you can use it some day.

Thanks for the comment, Steve. I encourage you to expand a bit upon that notion (to the tune of no more than 250 words) and submit the commentary to letterstotheeditor@marketnews.ca in order to qualify to win the HP netbook!

The good enough revolution really irks me. I listen to my children’s tinny data files broadcast over tiny speakers and wonder where I went wrong. The cost of a very nice sound has never been lower, yet the children actually prefer the tin ear. They laugh at my warnings to save at a higher bit rate.
