Pioneer Electronics has developed two new headphone lines, including in-ear models and DJ-inspired on-ear ‘phones ranging in price from $69 to $129.
The on-ear DJ headphones include the SE-MJ51 (shown here), which come in while and black and will sell for $119; the SE-MJ31 in black ($99); and the SE-MJ21 in black with silver ends ($69). All models incorporate dynamic sound tuning that Pioneer says delivers "a heightened impact for high and low notes." The light ‘phones also boast soft, plush ear pads that are made from a low-rebound urethane foam and wrapped in soft simulated leather.
Each has 40 mm drivers, 1,000mW input handling, and portable, folding design for easy transporting.
The Dynamic in-ear headphone line consists of the SE-CLX60 ($129), which has a flex nozzle for adjusting them to ideally fit in the ear canal; 10.5mm diameter speaker units, and a new bullet-type ear chip for preventing sound leakage and reducing ambient noise. Available in black or silver, they come with a self-fitting ear holder, and a cord clip.
For $89, Pioneer will be offering the SE-CLX40 compact size in-ear unit with closed compact driver. It will be available in funky purple or violet.
"These headphones are intended to meet the unique style and functional needs of different individuals, while delivering the top-of-the-line audio experience that is the customary goal of all Pioneer products," says Andrew Murphy, Director of Marketing for Pioneer Electronics of Canada. "DJ professionals have always considered our DJ lines of headphones best in class. Now we are offering consumers for the first time in Canada that same DJ quality of superior sound at very reasonable prices."
All five models will launch some time mid-year.

saying a $100 headphone performing similar to its $500 ProDJ cousin is like saying Pioneer's VSX-520 perform similarly to Elite SC-27. It's ridiculous marketing at its worst.
