Nintendo has acquired video codec provider Mobiclip. Terms of the deal haven't been disclosed, but it's believed that this deal officially closed in October, but was just made public this week.
Mobiclip provides video technology and basic compression on systems like the Nintendo 3DS, DS, and Gameboy Advance. It is being reported that Mobiclip will play a healthy role in the further development of the Wii U device.
Last month, Nintendo stated that it would be launching its own online gaming network. While details on the Nintendo Network were relatively vague, the company said that it would offer "competitions and communication among users, as well as the sales of digital content."
