Adam's App of the Week: Star Wars Gets Brisk, Baby!

If you're waiting in line right now to catch Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 3D on its opening day, might I recommend that you put down your life size replica lightsaber, and give the Brisksaber app some of your attention instead?

By now, you've surely seen the new Brisk Iced Tea commercials that feature everyone's favourite little green genius Yoda, and the red-faced Darth Maul almost duking it out. Together, they're obviously promoting the arrival of yet another Star Wars flick (which was originally done in 2D back in 1999), and a cool beverage, but they're also bringing some attention to the rather enjoyable, and free, Brisksaber app for iOS devices.

In this game, fanboys and fangirls alike can use a finger-controlled lightsaber to slash through the bad guys, and random objects that are flying at them through the galaxy. Characters like Jabba the Hutt, Jar Jar Binx, and Battle Droids, as well as items like the Naboo Royal Cruiser and the Corellian Star Shuttle, zip across the sky rather quickly, so make sure your finger reflexes are up to snuff. Just don't smack R2-D2, because his dying noise is horrifying!

Apparently, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker also make appearances in this app, but since I have so far sucked at this game, I've yet to see them. I will just have to believe that they're in there, otherwise I'm sure some of you Star Wars revelers would begin writing a surplus of angry, disparaging letters to Mr. George Lucas.

Following that revelation, you're probably assuming by now that I didn't get too far into the game level wise. Well, you would be correct. However, from what I've experienced thus far, I know that those that have a serious heart-on for Star Wars and gaming, will have a hard time not continually trying to one-up each other's scores. And, since certain scores and level completions need to be made to unlock more and more characters and objects, it's tough to not want to keep building up the numbers.

Speaking of scoring and bragging rights, individuals are able to share their Brisksaber experiences with all of their friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Aside from it being a game that I could mindlessly dedicate myself to for hours on end, my favourite aspect of the game is the continuous playing of the Star Wars movie score, and Yoda's comments. There's something about that freaky little character that makes him way too amusing to me. I'm not even really a giant fan of Star Wars, yet he kind of makes me want to be.

Recommend this game I would. Fun times playing it you will have.
